Leadership Training for Māori in Public Health

- Māori perspective of health protection in a regulatory environment
Purpose
- This programme has been specifically designed for Māori.
- This programme aims to:
- Increase participants’ understanding of a broad number of ‘cutting edge’ leadership issues
- Provide a safe – but challenging – environment for participants to explore issues related to Māori public health
- Strengthen participants’ networks across the country by fostering support, mentoring, strategy sharing and retention of Māori staff in the public health sector
- A project will also be undertaken outside the wānanga of this programme.
- A training folder will be provided which will include all pre-reading material for each session
Participant Eligibility
- For participants to be eligible for the programme, they shall be:
- Māori; and
- Currently employed in an organisation that has a Public Health contract with Ministry of Health or District Health Board; and
- Committed to positive health outcomes for Maori; andcommitted to attending all four noho Marae
- Committed to completing the programme

- Wananga 2 – 29 & 30 March, 2012 - COMPLETED
- Wananga 3 – 03 & 04 May, 2012
- Wananga 4 – 21 & 22 June, 2012
Cost
Participants will be expected to cover their own travel costs and koha to the Marae as applicable.
Accommodation, meals and all course materials will be covered by the course convenors.
If you commence the programme and only partially complete, then you and your organisation will be expected to reimburse the costs incurred.
Venue
The programme will be based at a Turangawaewae Marae, Ngaruawahia. Participants are expected to stay at the Marae for the duration of the Wānanga.
